About me

Hi! My name is Pau, which means "peace" in Catalan. I grew up in Cardedeu, a small town in Catalonia, Spain. After completing the Spanish A-levels, I decided to study Theoretical Physics at the University of Manchester. My passion for the field grew, and my achievements allowed me to pursue a Ph.D at the University of Liverpool, working on one of the most exciting and unsolved mysteries in the Standard Model of Particle Physics: the muon g-2 anomaly.

Some of my achievements include getting the Tessella Prize for best use of software in my Master's thesis, completing the Spanish A-levels with Honours and getting a First Class in my degree. Outside of education and physics, I was part of the team that won the 2018 Catalan Debate League.

In my free time I enjoy dancing salsa, spending time with friends and family and reading. I am also a big fan of learning, and I develop toy projects when the time allows me to. If you are interested, you can check some of them in the Portfolio section, as well as some academic work. Hope you like it!

Some reviews...

Books

  • The name of the wind

    The Kingkiller Chronicle

This has to be the first book in the list. Patrick Rothfuss' books are a masterpiece of fantasy, which I devouerd when I was younger. Still, rereading them now doesn't make them any less (maybe the nostalgia effect is altering my judgement, but who cares?). Very unfortunate that we will never know how they end.

  • 21 Lessons for the 21st Century

21 Lessons for the 21st Century

This was my first book by Harari (yes, before Sapiens!), and I can understand why he is a popular author. Although the book touches upon many topics, and most of them are not precisely light, the book is very easy to read, and gives quite a bit of food for thought. I had to stop more than once to debate with myself about the ideas presented. Quite enjoyable.

  • Fictions

    Fictions

I do not like the writing style of this book. I am one of those that believes that the writing style can be both simple and beautiful. Nevertheless, this is one of the best books I have ever read. Almost every story is by itself one great idea. I am not sure about the quality of the english translation, but the original version is a masterpiece.

  • 3-body problem

    The three-body problem

I don't really understand the excellent reviews this book has. Although the intial world seems very interesting, the book commits the worst crime a sci-fi book can commit (in my opinion): set up some rules that then is not going to respect. And it seems like the book has to violate some of its own rules to explain the very intersting phenomena that happens at the begining. I can belive that aliens with a different understanding of physics can exist, but I can't understand why, even though sophons have the power of altering vision and large scale physcis experiements, they can't just kill the main characters. Maybe I should read the rest of the triology, but I don't think I will.

Films

  • About time

    About time

The best "feel good" movie I have seen. It is a love story, but more towards life itself than to a person. I recommend it to everyone I can, and I have never heard a bad review.

  • Mother!

    Mother!

If you are like me and love trying to guess the end of a movie, this is for you. I spent the first half of the movie trying to guess what was going on, and the second half trying to guess what was going to happen. It is not going to change your life, but you will certainlty enjoy it.

  • Fight club

    Fight club

I put Fight Club, but I would put most of David Fincher's works. Seven, Gone Girl, Mindhunters... He identifies a good story and knows how to tell it.

  • The Prestige

    The Prestige

And of course, Nolan has to be here. Similar to Frincher, I would also have to add here Interestellar, the Dark Knight, Openhaimer, and many more. The Prestige however, is my favourite out of all his creations.
